FAIR ZONE Soap Tray Kithul 8 x 11 cm

On the south coast of Sri Lanka, our soap dishes are handmade from kithul palms. Kithulk is a very strong wood with a beautiful grain. Only kithul palms are used, which are no longer used agriculturally. The palm tree is used in many ways; palm wine, so-called toddy, is obtained from the inflorescence. Sweet powder is made from the dried fruit flesh. The leaves and flesh are also a delicacy for the local elephants. The palm tree is thus used until the end of its life. The wood with its characteristic grain is readily used to produce high-quality traditional handicrafts such as this jewellery box.
