FAIR SQUARED Scrunchies

It tames every mane and adds playful accents to the hair. Vintage saris are used to make it, giving them a fine second life as colourful hair accessories. How lovely – they spread joy, even though they can no longer fulfil their original function! Since the hair bands are an upcycled product, each one is a one-of-a-kind piece. Due to the huge variety of different saris, we offer the hair bands as a surprise product, meaning there is no option to select in advance. However, different colour clusters can be chosen.

They are produced in the sewing workshop of our partner Rice & Carry in Sri Lanka. Rice & Carry trains women from rural areas of Sri Lanka to enable them to earn their own income. The company's focus is on the use of resources, with particular emphasis on upcycling existing materials.

When our production partner Rice & Carry had the idea of making something from old saris, they went from door to door promoting the project to the women. Nowadays, the women bring their old saris to the factory themselves, and Rice & Carry turns them into scrunchies, hair bands or furoshiki (a textile alternative to gift wrap).

Directions

Use the scrunchie like a classic hair tie and wrap it around your hair once or several times depending on hair thickness. Suitable for ponytails, buns and other hairstyles.
